Restricted & Dangerous goods
The UK Government has strict measures in place to prevent items that can cause injury to yourself or other passengers on board an aircraft.
Some items are classed as 'restricted' and must be packed in passengers' checked (hold) luggage. You should contact your airline for information regarding what you are allowed to take with you. 'Restricted items' include firearms, weapons, explosives, pointed edged, sharp and blunt objects.
Other items are classed as 'dangerous goods' and may only be carried if certain conditions are met. You should contact your airline for information regarding what you are allowed to take with you. 'Dangerous goods' include flammable liquids and solids, gases, explosives, chemical and toxic substances.
Restricted Items: What Are They?
The UK Government has strict security measures in place to keep any items being taken on board an aircraft that may cause injury to yourself or other passengers. Such items are considered 'restricted' and passengers are prevented from taking these items through the passenger security screening point and onboard an aircraft. These items must be packed in passengers' checked (hold) luggage.
Examples of these items include (but not limited to):
- Hypodermic syringes (unless required for medical reasons)
- Replica and imitation firearms
- Toy guns of all types
- Knives

Dangerous Goods: What Are They?
The UK Air Navigation Order prohibits some dangerous goods from being taken on an aircraft under certain circumstances.
Examples of these items include (but not limited to):
- All firearms (pistols revolvers, rifles, shotguns)
- Explosives and explosive devices
- Non-safety matches
- Material capable of spontaneous ignition or combustion
- Household cleaning materials
- Weed killer / fertilizer
